Our dream vacation… Boston, where you can capture some amazing urban photography surrounded by historic locations and buildings.
My wife and I had never been to any of the New England states. This was genuinely a dream vacation. While in Boston, we saw many historic places.
I captured a lot of photos around Boston. Some were good, and as is the course, some were not so good. It happens. Here is my Boston Urban Gallery at Fine Art America, where you can see 27 of my best photos.
On a walking tour, we visited the Granary Burial Ground, the Massachusetts State House, the Old South Meeting Hall, the Old North Church, the Old State House, and Paul Revere’s House. We walked all over Boston. We saw many awesome and historic places. Many of these historic places played a key role in the Sons of Liberty, led by Samuel Adams. Ultimately, the Sons of Liberty ignited the American Revolution when they had a Boston Tea Party at Griffin’s Wharf and tossed the British Tea into the Harbor, thereby avoiding British taxation without representation.

The best part of our trolley tour around Boston was Little Italy on the north end of town and the Cheers Bar in Beacon Hill. Cheers is located directly across from Boston Common Park.
Later in our trip, we escaped via subway and train to Salem. Salem was nice and a bit too tourist-focused for us. It was Halloween time, and all the festivities were in full swing.

We only had 5 days to take it all in. That is clearly not enough time to see everything. We missed seeing Harvard, or escaping to Martha’s Vineyard… next time. A second or third trip will be in order.
Over those days I carried my camera to captures sites on our walking tour. These were all 3-frame, hand help captures, editied in Luminar HDR, then final processed in LightRoom Classic with my personal Liquid Gold preset.

There was a day in between when I carried my camera and my tripod. These were all 5-frame captures, processed primarily the same as above.
Over the years, I have enjoyed urban photography. My primary learning place was the streets of Seattle and Starbucks; however, Seattle is too dangerous these days to carry around $5k of equipment and not be a target of crime. So glad to have escaped to Star, Idaho.
More urban landscapes I captured were Huntington Beach, California, Spokane, Washington, St. Louis, Missouri, and Denver, Colorado. Boston was one of my favorite places to get good urban scenes.
My next goal will be to get out to Boise, Idaho, starting in 2026, and capture the urban landscape of that hopping town.
